Traditional language courses were slow and didn't focus enough on practical speaking skills. Employees could study for months and still feel unprepared for their first team meeting in a new language.
Under the direction of Christiane Bruno, L&D Manager, C&A deployed Beyond Words for 76 employees preparing for international transfers. The platform provided targeted speaking practice in the specific scenarios employees would face — presentations, negotiations, informal team conversations and client interactions.
The flexibility of the platform allowed employees to practice on their own schedule, fitting language preparation around their existing workload.
The program significantly accelerated time-to-readiness for international transfers. Employees reported feeling more confident in workplace communication, and managers noted a visible difference in how quickly newly transferred staff could participate fully in their new teams.
C&A has since expanded the program to additional transfer cohorts, making Beyond Words a standard part of its international mobility process.
